2019 Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Box Project

Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Box project – this is another annual project for our company.  We reached our goal of 30 boxes this year with everyone’s participation.  This idea of filling a shoe box with small items for children in underprivileged areas around the world has been around for a long time.  Over time it has become quite a popular project with churches and organizations all over the US participating each year. Thousands of these boxes are collected and sent to children for Christmas.  Everyone here enjoys buying for their box and this year we pooled resources and completed the 30 boxes.

2019 Fall Food Drive

Our Annual Fall Food Drive was another success!  We partner with our neighboring businesses, our warehouse, and several local customers to stock the Shallowford Presbyterian Church’s Pantry.  The Church provides for over 100 families in the area and our donation is always the largest and most appreciated.  Everyone in our office participates and we collect over 500lbs of pantry goods for this drive each year.

2019 Coat Collection for FAITH Riders

Coat Collection for FAITH Riders – one of our employees is a member of this group and asked that we participate in their Coat Project.  The day after Thanksgiving the group  goes to one of the homeless camps in the Atlanta area and gives out coats and toiletries.  We collected about 12 coats for the project.

2019 Annual Stock the Pantry Food Drive for our Fire Station

We usually do this around the 4th of July as an annual summer project.  This year we collected enough for 3 baskets and a $60 gift certificate to a local grocery store.  The Fire Station is a very busy one and they stay out on calls all day every day.  This year they came to the office to pick-up the baskets and to thank us for thinking of them.  They are “unheralded” heroes and we thanked them for their hard work and all that they do for our community.  It was nice to thank them in person!

2019 Collection of Old Eyeglasses for Lions Club Lighthouse for the Blind

Collection of old eyeglasses for the Lions Club Lighthouse for the Blind.  We accumulated over 50 pairs of old glasses from employees to contribute to this worthwhile cause.  Prescription glasses are cleaned and revamped and sent overseas with medical missionary trips.  Readers and sunglasses are also cleaned and revamped and given out here in the US.  Since we only replace our glasses every couple of years, we will do this project again in 2022.

2019 Donation for the Humane Society of NE Georgia

They are an independent non-profit no-kill shelter that depends solely on donations.  They were founded in 1913 and do a wonderful job of promoting adoptions for well animals – providing vaccinations and micro chipping.  We collected old towels and sheets and plastic bags.  This is another project that we will be doing again in 2020.

2019 Blanket Project

Our big Spring project this year was to make “no sew” fleece blankets for the non- profit group Open Hands.  They provide assistance for struggling families and the homeless with food and shelter.  The company bought the fabric, everyone in Operations helped with the cutting, and our Co-Founder, Verda McCullough (age 95), did the tying.  We enjoyed the project and seeing all 63 of the colorful blankets together was exciting.  They were so pleased with this gift and knew that there would be many children excited to receive something as colorful and useful as the blankets.  We will be doing this project again in 2020 as there is such a need at Open Hands for things to brighten up the lives of these children who are without even basic necessities in their homes and for the ones who are homeless.

2018 Christmas Shoeboxes Donation

As part of our yearly Community Outreach Program, McCullough & Associates once again was happy to be able to participate in the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child program. The program has been putting smiles on the faces of children since 1993 and we are thrilled to be able to contribute in a small way to this world wide charitable program.

Our employees contributed 36 shoeboxes filled with lots of great toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and accessories to be opened Christmas morning by children around the world. We would like to say thank you to our wonderful employees who participated in this our final Community Outreach Program for 2018.

Community Outreach Project for the Summer – Baskets for DeKalb County Fire Department Station #8

All of Operations at McCullough & Associates contributed items to stock the pantry at our local fire station.  This was out company’s summer Community Outreach project and the 5th year that we have made baskets at the 4th of July to thank our local fire station for their service to our community.  When we delivered the baskets they were out on a call and could not thank us in person, so made a special stop by our office to thank everyone in person for thinking of them and for the baskets of goodies.  The baskets contained everything from pantry staples like pastas and sauces, paper plates & Kleenex, homemade cookies and brownies, to hot dogs/buns and all of the trimmings.  The company’s next Outreach Project will be our Fall Food Drive in October for the Shallowford Presbyterian Food Pantry.

Students compete for prizes at the local and state levels. Each state winner will receive an expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the National Challenge on June 19 and to vie for $18,500 total in college scholarships. Our moderator remarked how intelligent these students were and that many of his high school students would not even be at this level of chemistry knowledge. The teachers are doing a great job implementing chemistry concepts into the classroom and the competition is a great way for them to be rewarded!

Our judges volunteering their time were Bart Whitaker from Whitaker Oil, Annie Kelley from Brenntag, and Kyle Johnson. We are already looking forward to sponsoring the West Georgia competition next year, and we have great plans to increase the school participation.

Below is a list of our suppliers who monetarily contributed to the competition:

• Amware Logistics – $150
• The Weatherby Group – $500
• Southern Chemical & Textile – $1000
• Brenntag Mid-South – $250
• Cabot Corporation – $75

These suppliers donated gifts for the participant goody bags:

• Covestro
• schulke
• ShinEtsu

Thank you to our suppliers for getting involved and we look forward to next year!
